Therefore, OWF has decided to sponsor the Third International Violin Competition “Vasco Abajiev” in Sofia, Bulgaria. Vasco Abajiev is a Bulgarian virtuoso violinist and one of the 10 greatest violinists of the 20th century. He had his international debut at the age of 6 before the jury of The First international competition in violin in Vienna in 1932.
The competition is organized by UNESCO Club “Leonardo da Vinci” and the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”. It is a truly prestigious and internationally unique musical forum, where young musicians have the opportunity to launch their career. The National Music Academy is the most significant cultural centre in Bulgaria, whose versatile initiatives gain prestige and recognition internationally. Its graduates win top prizes in prestigious competitions around the globe and take part in various music initiatives. One of its worldwide known graduates is Raina Kabaivanska - a Bulgarian opera singer, known as one of the leading lyrico-spinto sopranos of her generation, particularly associated with Verdi and Puccini.
